Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher at Cardinal Ritter is responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher. The substitute upholds the Catholic mission of the school by modeling Christian values and ensuring continuity of instruction and classroom management according to the teacher’s lesson plans and school policies.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction following the regular teacher’s lesson plans and curriculum guidelines.

• Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment that reflects Catholic values.

• Uphold and support the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church in all interactions with students, staff, and families.

• Take attendance and maintain records as required by school policy.

• Communicate effectively with students and staff to ensure learning continues in the teacher’s absence.

• Supervise students in the classroom and during breaks, recess, and lunch as needed.

• Leave notes or a summary of the day for the returning teacher, including any classroom issues or notable student behavior.

• Follow all school procedures and diocesan policies, including safety protocols and confidentiality standards.

Job Requirements

• Teaching experience or experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.

• Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain classroom order.

• Practicing Catholic preferred or willingness to support the Catholic identity and mission of the school.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Flexibility and reliability, with the ability to adapt to different grade levels and subjects.

• Fingerprint clearance, background check, and completion of diocesan Safe Environment training required.
