Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, Inc., a non-profit corporation responsible for assisting individuals age 60 and older with accessing and obtaining essential services, is looking for a dynamic, reliable, and caring person to provide assistance in meeting those needs for older adults in Mercer County.
What you can expect:
This is a key dual-role position responsible for supporting both the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program and the PA MEDI Program.
Ombudsman - This position involves advocating for all consumers of long-term care in the designated delivery area of the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. The Ombudsman serves as a voice for vulnerable older adults, working to protect and promote their rights, dignity and quality of life in nursing facilities, personal care homes and similar environments.
Work involves visiting all nursing facilities and personal care homes in Mercer County on a regular basis, providing training and technical assistance to those facilities.
Work includes responding to and investigating all consumer concerns and complaints in long term care facilities, working with families, facility resident councils and committees to promote independence and dignity for frail older adults with the goal of empowering the older consumer and to foster positive and cooperative relationships.
PA Medi – Insurance Counselor - This position supports PA MEDI’s mission of empowering, educating, and assisting Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers through objective counseling, outreach, and training to make informed health insurance decisions and optimize access to care and benefits.
Work involves providing individualized Medicare counseling, public education, and technical support to older adults and caregivers within the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. service area.
This role involves both direct service to consumers and program coordination, including volunteer development and inter-agency collaboration.
Qualifications for available positions: - Associate degree in Human Development & Family Studies or a related field, or equivalent experience in health or social services.
Experience working with older adults in a counseling, advocacy, or case management role is preferred.
Possession of valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and insurance with the ability to travel throughout the County in own personal vehicle.
