Job Description
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Start Date: July 1, 2026
Employment Type: Full-Time | Year-Round | Exempt
Salary Range: $45,000-$60,000 annually
Reports to: Headmaster
Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory, a joyful and growing Catholic classical high school, is seeking a passionate, mission-driven leader to serve as our next Athletic Director.
Reporting directly to the Headmaster, the successful candidate will provide vision, leadership, and day-to-day oversight for a robust athletic program that supports the integral and virtuous formation of our students in mind, body, and soul.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Leads, develops, and promotes an athletic program that is fully aligned with the mission and culture of Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory.
- Supervises and supports coaches, ensuring excellence in coaching, mentorship, and Christian witness.
- Oversees scheduling, league participation, transportation, practice facility use, equipment, and uniforms.
- Ensures compliance with CHSAA, diocesan, and school policies.
- Collaborates closely with the Headmaster and faculty to integrate athletics into the broader life of the school
- Locates rental facilities for practices and games
- Manages game operations
- Communicates clearly and charitably with students, families, coaches, officials, and opposing schools
- Foster a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, and joyful competition rooted in virtue.
- Assists with program growth, including potentially new sports offerings as enrollment increases
- Along with the Director of Mission Advancement, helps to fundraise the athletic department budget
- Recruits, develops, and oversees mission-aligned coaches
- Recruits, develops, and oversees parent managers
- Manage the athletic budget and steward resources responsibly
- Estimates sports costs and sets athletic fees
- Serves as a substitute teacher as needed
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with, and commitment to, the Catholic faith and the classical education model.
- Deep understanding and appreciation of the mission and values of Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory.
- Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to strategically plan, organize, and execute athletic efforts.
- Teaching experience preferred
- Pay commensurate with experience.
Schedule:
- Full-time (40+ hours/week)
- Potential flexible schedule during July and school breaks
- Some weekend and evening events are required
